4 WAYS TO STAY HYDRATED ALL DAY

Hydration is essential as our bodies are made of 60 to 70 percent water. Water
is key to overall health and a well-functioning body and mind. Although the
exact amount of water each person needs depends on their weight and level
of activities through the day, sometimes we don’t take enough H2O.
With the first wave of heat beginning to soak us in sweat, it’s best to always
keep some water on hand to make sure you stay hydrated throughout the
day. With what is expected to be a hot summer ahead, keep these tips handy
so that in both the long and short term, your body will thank you!
TIP 1: EAT WATER
Studies have shown that eating foods such as cucumbers and lettuce which
have a high-water content satisfies appetites more than by simply drinking a
glass of water. So, loading up your platter with more fruits and vegetables can
be a winning strategy to beat the thirst. High-water fruits such as watermelon,
cantaloupe and blueberries, and vegetables such as cucumber, zucchini and
tomato are all very high in water content. These low-glycemic foods also tend
to be low in calories, which means you can eat them guilt-free and get your
water levels up!
TIP 2: TIME IT
Scheduling time to sip on some water might be the only way to make sure
you drink water at regular intervals. The idea is similar to getting to the gym
or prepping for a work day lunch. You make efforts to ensure making other
healthy choices so why not add hydration to your routine. Try setting an alarm
on your phone every 30 minutes or so as a reminder to drink a few
ounces. Keep a bottle on your desk or in your car so you always have water
close at hand. Like everything else in your routine, once it’s part of your day
it’ll become second nature to hydrate throughout the day.
TIP 3: MAKE IT TASTY
Water is plain so try infusing some flavours to it and you’ll be looking forward
for your drink. Adding fresh fruits to your water lets the natural sweetness
come through. Throw in a few peels of lemon into your bottle which will make
your water a delicious low calorie drink leaving you feeling fresh with each
sip. You can have fun exploring endless combinations of different fruits and
flavours to infuse into your water. It’s fun to come up with creative combinations.
Don’t be scared to mix in exotic fruits and fresh herbs like watermelon
and mint or raspberry and basil to add an extra “pop”!
TIP 4: COUNT YOUR INTAKE
Set hydration goals. Know the number of ounces in your water bottle and
push yourself to drink 4 or 6 or however many bottles you need to drink in order
to hit your personal hydration number. It can actually be fun to push yourself
to drink more each day with every activity or each workout.
